Episode 2: Hindsight is 20/20 [Audio/Action]
[The first time was forgiveable. Even after the incident in Sternbild over the Christmas of 1978 (which he had never gotten to experience before he was spirited away to the beach on the other side of the enclosure last spring), Barnaby was able to find it within himself to accept the small degree of good that came with the emotionally jarring effects of the invasion from last month. It was a lie, he knew, but for a few days there he felt like he had something normal.
That itself bothered him to no end. He couldn't accept it, but...
He had found a few friends for a change.
The most recent incident, however, was a repeated offense. It wasn't the result of the actions of any tertiary parties, like last month. No, this had to be the Management toying with them again, for whatever the reason that Barnaby didn't care to investigate. The few acquaintances he had made over the months had forgotten about him -- and Luceti -- entirely.
That was the true offense.
But, even through his anger, a part of him wondered if this was how Kotetsu felt on that blisteringly cold day last December (the one he had missed, remember?).
To forget. To be forgotten.
Barnaby would never allow that to happen again.]
[Late in the afternoon Barnaby tossed open the journal that he periodically ignored and, for once, decided to openly speak his mind.]
If everyone is done now, I'm heading out.
[With that he flipped the book shut. No, he won't be responding to any replies for a while.
Instead, he could be found in Good Spirits for the night. He had things he needed to think about and notes to reorganize. Perhaps a drink (or three) might help him settle down a little.
The odds of that were nil.]

[Action]
The sigh draws a faint one from her as well, and a few unpleasant memories float back to the forefront. Little Loki, Moro, the frenzied flight with Draco and that cold, distant feeling deep in the pit of her stomach.]
Regret? Maybe. I don't know. But last year was bad.
[Action]
It sounded like it would be worse than Christmas-- although, there was little that even could be worse in his mind.]
I'll keep my head then.
[There was no 'try'. He would or he wouldn't, but it would be by his will alone. This world provided ample opportunity process everything no matter what fate brought.]
[Action]
[Fingers tighten and she gives him a tired look. He didn't need this, not now, but it was worth saying.]
I know you're a hero in your world, and you're strong and quick and powerful. But last year that didn't matter much. They sent us on a draft. Into a place filled with some sort of blood plague. It brought the dead to life, and spread quickly, like in a zombie film. That apparently wasn't even the worst Halloween, or the most lethal draft. But it's...well...it's safer to be more mentally prepared for the absolute worst.
[Action]
That sounds less like a draft and more like a horror movie.
[It was an easy reference for him. He didn't care much for celebrating his birthday as it was, but an outrageously pink rabbit sounds like a preferable option.]
[Action]
[A modern swear word for emphasis, really.]
And as unlikely as it is to happen a second time, it's possible that whatever they come up with will be worse.
[Action]
Barnaby was a Hero. Conflicts aside, he was one-- at least, for a while. What Saori was talking about was entirely over his head.]
I'll keep that in mind.
[Action]
[Her head dips and she takes another swig, this time straight from the bottle.]
We'll make it through, I'll be with you where I can. But it's so unpredictable, and it may simply be beyond any of us. I understand the year before the Malnosso decided to drop the moon on the enclosure. And as absurd as it sounds, in this place?
[Action]
[As much as he didn't want to, but the things he wanted didn't seem to matter at all in this strange world.]
The best choice really is to stick together, isn't it?
