Episode 1: The Day After is Always the Hardest to Handle [accidental audio/action]
[That was some adrenaline rush.
Barnaby groaned when the distant rumble of thunder and the cold patter of raindrops on his bare skin pulled him back to consciousness. The muscles in his arms, shoulders, and back ached like he knew they would. The battle atop the Justice Tower had been long and vicious-- sleep was bliss after that beating, that rage-- He fisted a hand in the sand, and his thoughts ground to a halt.
Why was there sand?
Thunder rumbled once more, closer than it had been moments before. Barnaby abruptly sat up, his already electrified instincts snapping him into action in less than a heartbeat. He knew that there was no more reason for him to fight, but there were some habits that would never change. Not so quickly.
His momentary spark of irritation quickly gave way to confusion. Barnaby ran a hand through his sodden curls with sand covered fingers as his mind tried to register the sudden change in his surroundings. This wasn't his bed, his flat, or even anywhere in Sternbild.
Why was he at a beach?
The rain started to fall harder, prompting Barnaby stiffly pull himself up from the sand. He hadn't noticed the book that was lying on it's open pages nearby, just barely within reach of the receeding tide.]
...Honestly. [His voice was weary, exasperated.] They couldn't have bothered to put up a shelter?
[Later that day, after he's settled (after a fashion), Barnaby can be found in the shops around the plaza, gathering his few belongings and proper furnishings for his new flat, or holed up in a quiet corner of the library to peruse both his journal and any informational book that he could find. He just couldn't trust any of the evidence he had, not when it was so blatantly absurd.
It'd be wise to avoid mentioning any large, stuffed pink bunnies that he might be seen with that day. He couldn't just leave it in the shops for anyone to take!]

[Many of them tended to like pink, in his experience.]
Re: [action - library ]
No, I tend to like my women a bit more mature, and Star Fleet doesn't do pink. Red's fine and dandy though.
[ He comes closer, a physics applications book under his arm. ]
Should I ask why it's a rabbit?
[action - library ]
[Both in and out of the field. He clapped his journal closed as the stranger drew near, already uncomfortable by the mere notion of someone standing so close while he was reading.
Libraries were for work, not socializing.
He huffed at the question, unamused, and pulled the bag closer.]
Because of some friends who have poor taste in humor.
Re: [action - library ]
Eh, well, I know how that goes.
[ He's friends with a Scott and a man who enjoys sticking him with needles, so, you know. ]
What do you do that brings you around young ladies? You a pop star?
[action - library ]
Even if I was, it's not like it matters here.
Re: [action - library ]
Not really, but it'd be a nice story anyways. And heck, if you're a pop star - well, Luceti could always do with an impromptu concert.
[ He'd get behind that, even if he wasn't much of a pop guy, but a good time is a good time. ]
[action - library ]
[Or someone like Blue Rose. She was much closer to being a pop idol than he was, and was perennially one of the most popular figures on HeroTV.]
Re: [action - library ]
[ He snorted at that, trying to imagine himself singing or with an instrument of any kind and failing horribly. He didn't have the patience for that kind of learning, the discipline, or the dexterity. ]
I'm a motorcycle kind of guy, not a signer or a musician, not by a long shot. Or a guy for pink bunnies.
[action - library ]
Re: [action - library ]
[ His mouth quirks at that. ]
Must have some interesting friends.
[action - library ]
That's one way to put it.
Re: [action - library ]
What are you researching anyways?
[ With a pink bunny looking over your shoulder. Because who wants to sit and read a novel in a library? You take that stuff home. ]
[action - library ]
supposed to bequiet, comfortable places to work. Considering that Barnaby hadn't fully decided on a flat yet, it seemed like the best place to go.]I'm reading the book that arrived with me. It seems like a good idea to do so.
Re: [action - library ]
Oooh yeah, that thing. Yeah, good idea, if a bit dry.
[ He rubbed the back of his neck. ]
Reminds me, my name's Kirk. Nice to meet you and your bunny.
[ At his name, his little canary yellow and black wings fluttered a bit behind him. ]
[action - library ]
Wings aside. His were still cramped under the sleek lines of his leather jacket.]
Barnaby. [His tone was deceptively mild. No, he's not much of a talker, and there was no need to give his full name. Yet.] And it's good to meet you too.
[In a way. It was easier to get what he needed with kinder words instead of just being himself.]
Re: [action - library ]
Barnaby - cool name, very old school.
[ And Kirk had similar feelings when he first got here, but eventually it settles in. He doesn't like that it settles in, but at least now that it's real in his head he can properly do something about it. Well, think about a way to do something about it. So far, other people's attempts had not gone over so well.. ]
Your rabbit got a name too?
[action - library ]
Why would it have a name?
[His tone was mild. Completely innocent.]
Re: [action - library ]
Well, you said it was a present. I thought most people who had stuffed animals named them something, especially if they're important.
[action - library ]
[There was only the one toy, but he wasn't going to mention that.]
Re: [action - library ]
So? You don't need many to bother naming them, and if you only have one that's more reason to name it, isn't it?
[action - library ]
Re: [action - library ]
Heh, sorry, didn't mean to push your buttons.
You got any questions that book hasn't answered yet?
[ His version of trying to make up for being nosy - which he wasn't really sorry for. ]
[action - library ]
[Because, Kirk. He's just touchy enough at the moment to not play along.]
But, thank you for the offer Mister Kirk.
Re: [action - library ]
[ He shook his head. ]
Just Kirk is fine. I get enough 'Captain' business from Spock, I really don't want to transition into 'Mister' with anyone.
[ He shifted his books against his hip and nodded. ]
See you around, Barnaby. Try and get out of here and into the sunshine sometime soon, yeah?
